FutureLeadersThe Future Leaders Programme

Provided by The Future Leaders Trust

Future Leaders is a leadership development programme for current and aspiring senior leaders with the potential to become headteacher of a challenging school in two to five years.  The three-year programme provides expert training, mentoring and coaching, networking and ongoing support.

  • Expert Training: Training begins with 17 days of residential leadership development during the Summer, and continues with regional events throughout the programme.
  • Mentoring & Coaching: Throughout your journey to headship you will have access to expert coaching and mentoring from a talented and experienced current or former head.
  • Network: All participants have access to advice, best practice and support from the growing network of over 500 Future Leaders.
  • Ongoing Support: Your progress throughout the programme will be evaluated, allowing tailored career development support to be offered to you.

Impact: 'The Future Leaders mission unearthed some deep-seated values within me about what education can and should be for young people.  The leadership training has equipped me with the skills to help me grow in confidence and has made me more effective in developing people'.- James Haseldine, Headteacher, Stretford High School

Participants will be provided with the tools to start having an immediate impact in their schools.  Each year, participants will complete an Impact Initiative, an assessed whole-school improvement project that must demonstrate meaningful and measurable results.

Future Leaders is a selective programme. It is open to both Primary and Secondary leaders.  Schools who employ a Future Leader must also meet the criteria of being in a challenging context, which is linked to Ever6-FSM.

Three years.

Nationwide, covering 8 regions.  Your local network is the South East.  Coaching visits take place within your school. The initial 17 day training is residential and takes place near Cambridge.

There is a one-off fee of £1,500 for Secondary schools who nominate a member of staff for the programme.  No cost is incurred for Primary schools nominating, and no cost is incurred where a school employs a Future Leader who was not employed by them before they joined the programme.
